I spent a lot of my younger years in Galveston and our family had a beach house in Port Bolivar. So I always love going there. It's a charming historical place. It always reminds me of a smaller version of New Orleans. I love the Strand and there are some really fantastic restaurants and some beautiful places to stay. There's something for everyone. Great couples getaway... great family playground. Sugar and Rye great restaurant with awesome staff. Katie's Seafood House is just amazing. The only true spot on the Island where the food is caught daily by local fishing boats, brought directly to Katie's Fish Market on ice and cooked and served fresh. Doesn't get any better than that. Rudy & Paco is a gem. Vargas is great. And there are just so many options.

The weather was comfortable the weekend we went and the beach and gulf were absolutely beautiful. They had lots of unique, affordable, and still well made souvenirs and souvenir shops all over the place. On top of the gorgeous gulf and beach, Galveston also has many greatly enjoyable and entertaining attractions such as the Moody Gardens and walking the shops on The Strand. The sit down restaurants were also some of the absolute best restaurants my family have ever been too. We tried Salsa’s because we saw it was ranked the best Mexican food and it stood very well to the title. I ate on my chimichanga 3 times due to the big size (which was still a very good price) and it was just so delicious that every time I got hungry I craved it again. We also went to the always delicious and fun experience of the Rainforest Cafe. My 3 year old ate his whole meal (he never does that) and absolutely loved the moving animals and fun cups. The last restaurant we went to was Fish Tales which is known for its absolutely amazing seafood. My husband and I got some delicious shrimp meals, that we ate again the next day for lunch, and our son got some perfectly cooked, deboned, and seasoned catfish fish sticks. We didn’t waste any food this weekend because it was all so absolutely delicious. I booked my next years vacation while on this vacation because we can’t wait to go again.

Didn't know about haze from Mexico so that was weird. We enjoyed two wonderful restaurants while there. Sahsa (spelling may be wrong) and Pappas. And it was nice getting delivery to the hotel. I did get to sit and watch the waves coming in. I will be back to Galveston in the future.

The beach was dirtier than I have ever seen it in my 50 years of going almost every summer. Trash was everywhere. Not just seaweed but trash.
Love mother Teresa’s flying pizza close to the strand. Never disappoints. Katie’s seafood is wonderful!

We visit Galveston from Dallas every year or two, and are always sad to leave. There's so much to do and see, we can never get to everything we want to do before our time is up. It combines a great seaside party location with stunningly beautiful historic attractions and terrific family theme parks, all on one small island within easy driving distance.

Both trolleys need to be more reliable especially on the Seawall. The one day we took it, was a nice overview of the area. We rented a golf cart to get around or used uber (which can get expensive). Visited the Naval Museum on Pelican Island. It had a submarine and destroyer to tour. Visited the train museum that was interesting especially the "ghost" statues. The downtown area, called "The Strand". was walkable. Nice boutiques. art galleries and antique shops. The Seawall is where a lot of business and activity seemed to be but is long. You need a car, bus, trolley or golf cart to navigate the area. We ate at several nice restaurants including: Laundry's, Mario's, Saltywater and Miller's. There is a "turtle" search about town where there are painted turtle statues. Fun activity for everyone. We found our 6 purely by accident and took pictures. We would like to return.
